If you plan to head to Kilis, which is located along the Turkish border with Syria, during Ramadan, be forewarned the city is asleep until at least 7 p.m., but after iftar (fast-breaking dinner) the streets become alive. The downtown core becomes a hub of activity with most merchants displaying their wares on the sidewalks outside their shops. You can stop off for freshly squeezed orange juice for TL 1 or pick up a cone of dondurma (Turkish ice cream) as you stroll amongst the locals, enjoying the warm evening until at least 2 a.m..
Motorbikes are the transportation of choice
in this border town. Aug. 4, 2012
